From August 2026 our Cambridge lab will begin using a new gene panel for mature lymphoid neoplasia testing. This is intended to improve classification and treatment in line with recent advances.
The new panel, known as the TWIST Pan-Lymphoid NGS panel, includes all relevant gene targets detailed in the current national genomic test directory (opens in a new tab).

It will be used for all mature lymphoid neoplasia tests. Most orders placed from 3rd August will use the new method except for chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) and mantle cell lymphoma (MCL), which will progressively transition over the coming months. In addition, some cases already received in the lab may be processed using the new panel.
Sample requirements and requesting processes remain the same:
- FFPE: H&E stained section, followed by 10 + 5-micron unstained sections, followed by H&E stained section
- Peripheral blood: 1 x red or lilac top EDTA
- bone marrow: 1 x red top EDTA

Please continue to provide:
- The relevant genetic test code from the current national genomic test directory (GT code).
- The lesional percentage is stated on all samples as a % of all nucleated cells
- Histology or flow cytometry reports are provided to support interpretation and aid production of genomic reports.
- Details of any relevant clinical observations or differential diagnosis.
The new test method has been validated to a limit of detection (LoD) of 5% variant allele frequency (VAF). Selected clinically relevant hotspot variants, including BRAF V600E, MYD88 L265P, and RHOA G17V are analysed with enhanced sensitivity to a validated limit of 3% VAF.
The expected turnaround time is 21 days from receipt of sample and request.
The new panel is a product of an extensive national collaborative effort by the national genomic network of excellence for haemato-oncology (opens in a new tab) and was developed with key involvement from East Genomics colleagues.
