East of England Cancer Alliance launch first in series of VR training videos

The East of England Regional Genomic Practitioner Service (RGPS) have launched a VR training module called 'Genomics – Mainstream Testing for Lynch Syndrome'.

This module follows a patient and family journey where Lynch syndrome is suspected, diagnosed and managed in the context of hereditary cancer risk. Learners experience key moments from diagnosis through to genetic testing, results disclosure and shared decision-making about surveillance and treatment.

Through immersive scenes and reflective Stop & Think moments, participants practice explaining genomic concepts in plain language, exploring values and preferences, and coordinating care between primary care, genetics services and secondary care teams.

Non-urgent advice: How to access the module

This training can be accessed via a VR headset, web browser or mobile phone.

Access the VR Lynch Syndrome training module here.

Navigating the module

To navigate in a computer web browser, click, hold and drag with your mouse or track pad.

If using a mobile phone, use your finger to scroll round the 360 screen.

If you wish to pause the 360 videos, look down at your feet to find the menu buttons. If using a web browser window or mobile phone, drag the screen up, and you will see the menu buttons (as shown below). Here you will find the play/pause button. Next to this you will find skip to the next scene or return to the previous scene. There is also a scene selection menu; this will allow you to move to a specific chapter in the experience. You can also press the exit button to leave the 360 module you are currently in.

Please note: You will have a better view if you watch in Google Chrome, rather than Safari.

Work in Progress

The RGPS are already developing a further training video on the Whole Genome Sequencing pathway - the entire pathway start to finish. The filming for this module has been completed and the edits are being made.

Their third and final module is in the design phase and will be focusing on prostate cancer.

VR Training Day

The team are in the process of arranging some VR Training drop-in events in summer 2026.  If you would like to find out more about this, or the VR training project more generally, please contact Liz Lawrence, Programme Lead - Regional Genomic Practitioner Service, East of England Cancer Alliance
