Migration of RNA fusion testing to Cambridge

From 26 November 2025, SIHMDS teams should make requests for RNA fusion sequencing direct to our Cambridge Lab and no longer need to send requests to the North East & Yorkshire Genomic Medicine Service (Newcastle).

This service will now be provided in-house in Cambridge and will now include testing across 1,385 genes rather than the current 507 (find out more about our panels).

  • The process for making requests in Cambridge for samples stored in Cambridge will be unchanged, but tests will now also be processed in Cambridge.
  • For all others that currently send FFPE samples to Newcastle. Samples should now be sent to Cambridge as 10 x 5 µm unstained sections only. Samples in other forms cannot currently be accepted for testing.

EDTA samples for RNA based assay should be received within 72 hours of sample collection and ideally within 48 hours.

The expected turn around time is 21-days. Please contact us via with questions or queries.
