CUH Genomics Laboratory Easter Bank Holiday arrangements

The CUH Genomics laboratory will be delivering a reduced bank holiday service during the Easter bank holiday weekend.

Outside of routine courier collections, please do not arrange deliveries between Thursday 28 March (12:00pm) to Monday 2 April (inclusive).

A normal service will be resumed on Tuesday 3 April 2024

Rare Disease Service

Any prenatal samples or urgent blood samples received before 3:30pm on Thursday 28 April should receive a QF-PCR/FISH result on Tuesday 2 April. Samples received after the 3:30pm cut off on Thursday may not be processed until Tuesday with results available on Wednesday 3 April.

We recommend that the laboratory is contacted prior to sending urgent samples to ensure safe receipt.

Haemato-Oncology Service

Please may we remind you that routine courier services will not be in place over the bank holiday periods. If you anticipate sending any samples during these weekends, it is essential to liaise with the CUH Genomics Laboratory teams at:

Given that the routine CUH Laboratory team will not be working on Friday 29 March and Monday 2 April 2024:

  • It would be very helpful to inform us if any samples will be arriving after 3pm on the Thursday before the bank holiday weekend
  • Routine samples requiring RNA extraction for internal tests (e.g., BCR-ABL p210 quantification) must also be received by 3pm on the Thursday
  • Follow-up AML or ALL MRD samples requiring immediate dispatch to external laboratories to obtain RNA (e.g., NPM1, core binding factor, PML-RARA, BCR-ABL1) should be received at the very latest by the lunchtime on the Wednesday before the bank holiday weekend. Samples received after this date will require processing within the GLH prior to onward dispatch and must be received by 3pm on Thursday 28 March to ensure this occurs.

CUH Genomics Laboratory molecular scientists will however be available to ensure that if urgent molecular samples require processing over the bank holiday periods (to maintain the viability of RNA), this can be performed. For CUH submitters a cytogenetics scientist will also be on call for emergency requests by contacting the HODS on-call consultant.

If you have a sample requiring this type of urgent processing please contact the CUH Genomics Laboratory teams at:

If you would like to contact the on-call HODS consultant, please go through the CUH switchboard on 01223 805000.

Thank you for your understanding.
